LIESL SCHOENBERGER

What’s the difference between a violin and a fiddle? For crossover violinist Liesl Schoenberger Doty, the answer is simple: not much.

Originally from Cape Girardeau, Missouri, Liesl has performed across North America and Europe at venues such as Carnegie Hall, The Musikverein, The Kennedy Center, and The Grand Ole Opry. She has appeared as a soloist with orchestras nationwide and at festivals including Yellow Barn, Ottawa Chamber Fest, and the Mozarteum Sommerakademie.

A crossover artist, Liesl has released three commercial fiddle albums with legends Buddy Spicher and David Grier and tours nationally with composer Eric Genuis. She was a longtime member of Grammy-nominated A Far Cry, where she met her husband, bassist Karl Doty. Together, they perform as The Dotys while raising their three children.

Liesl holds degrees from Indiana University and Yale and pursued doctoral studies at New England Conservatory. She has taught at Dartmouth, UNH, and SEMO, and currently serves as Associate Professor of Violin at the Crane School of Music at SUNY Potsdam.

She performs on a 1919 Carl Becker violin.
