In the spirit of the French Revolution\, Beethoven was the first musician\, or artist of any kind\, to reject the notions of birthrights and social hierarchies and pave the way for future generations\, like the 19th century German composer\, Carl Reinecke\, to be honored and appreciated for their talents and accomplishments alone. Edward Elgar\, perhaps the culmination of this journey towards respect\, was knighted at Buckingham Palace in July 1904. On this program\, listeners will hear an early Piano Sonata of Beethoven’s described by one famous critic as “an exquisite little work\,” and Reinecke’s melodic and lyrical Trio that showcases the oboe and horn in their best light. Finally\, Sir Edward’s unabashedly romantic Piano Quintet is often lush\, sometimes ghostly or serene\, but always eloquent and dramatic. \nReiko Uchida\, “Refined and exquisite” \n— The New York Times \nReiko Uchida is a pianist of rare poetic quality. DESCRIPTION:Brahms’ Viola Quintet in F might not be considered his most famous chamber work\, but it was his own personal favorite\, writing to his publisher\, Simrock\, upon submission\, “You have never before had such a beautiful work from me!” Following the example of Mozart\, he added a second viola to a string quartet and created a spirited work of bright cheerfulness that features a radiant first movement\, a stately and deeply expressive slow movement and a powerful finale that has been described by critics as the “crown of this work\, a magnificent masterpiece.” The program opens with a charming work by a Mozart contemporary\, Antonin Vranický\, that also features two violas\, as well as flute and oboe. In addition to being an outstanding jazz pianist\, she is also a successful composer\, teacher and lecturer. She will be joined by nine musicians for this magnificent performance. \nGeorge Gershwin is\, by far\, the most celebrated American composer in the World. Premiered exactly 100 years ago\, his Rhapsody in Blue fused Jazz and western classical music in ways no one had ever done before. Come celebrate with the North Country Chamber Players as they perform this beloved work and find out the extraordinary true story of how it came to be in the first place. \nAbout the Seating: Tables can accommodate 8-10 people. We will assign you to a table or kindly convey any preferences and table configurations with your ticket purchase\, or email director@northcountrychamberplayers.org at time of reservation.
